Retro spin on the future.

The Garland theater of tomorrow, a 1940s future spin on one of Spokane, WA's most iconic landmark. The new owners of the Garland wanted to get back to the theaters roots, focusing on nostalgic cinema and the glory days of the theaters first opening in 1945. To help bring this vision to life, I developed illustrations imagining the Theater in a grand retro future version of itself. In this fantastical world, one could gaze into distant galaxies and take a ride on a UFO or rocketship. These visions all centered around the Gartlands most iconic feature, its sign that spires into the sky in neon glory. Inspired by vintage film titles I brought the Opener to life with a new golden emblem take on the theaters logo. The motion starts out mysteries utilizing a VO line from the film Phantom Planet. We then are lead into the theaters world by a UFO that illuminates the scene with a projector glow passing by planets, a space train, and finally the Garland sign. In addition to the opener I developed mascot for the theater. "Pops" a friendly space age popcorn bucket appears through out the theater pointing audiences to important signs and notifications as your guide through the theater of tomorrow. Complete with 3D goggles and rocket boots, Pops brings viewers back to the classic age of cinema with a playful touch.
